From Berk to the backyard, little riders and dragons take flight with this DIY. Learn to create Toothless, Hiccup and Astrid, and get ready for all the Halloween adventures.
Materials
For Toothless

For Hiccup

Instructions
For Toothless:
-
Start with a kid’s black outfit as the base.
For the wings
-
Trace and cut dragon wing shape from black felt.

Cut two long strips of felt for the wing's arm straps.
-
Attach the wings using hot glue.
For the tail and fins
-
Cut a long triangle from black felt and join the seam using hot glue or hem tape.

Stuff with stuffing to create the tail.
-
Cut three fin shapes from black felt.
-
Add fins to either side of the middle of the tail and one on the end using hot glue.

Cut another fin from brown leather felt for the end of the tail.
For the head
-
Cut a visor shape from black craft foam.
-
Attach a piece of elastic to the ends of the visor to secure the visor to the child’s head.

Using a rectangular piece of black craft foam, attach one end along the front of the visor using hot glue.
-
Trim the foam along the edges to form toothless’ head.
-
Add additional pieces of foam for the nose and eyebrows.
-
Cut two eye shapes from green craft foam and secure them to the head using hot glue.
For Hiccup:
-
Start with a green zip hoodie and neutral bottoms as a base.
-
Cut a vest shape from brown felt and hot glue two rectangular pieces of fur to the front of the vest using hot glue.
-
With pieces of brown leather felt, create pouches to attach to a brown belt.

Cut two strips of brown fur to attach to the top of each boot as cuffs.
For Astrid:

Start with a burgundy polo top or dress and teal bottoms as the base.
For the belt
-
Tale two long strips of leather felt and a piece of brown rope.
-
Braid these together to form the belt.
-
Cut six tapered rectangular pieces of brown leather felt and attach these to the belt using hot glue.
-
Cut two strips of brown fur to attach to the top of each boot as cuffs.
For the shield
- Start with a large plastic tray and hot glue the styrofoam half ball to the center. Spray paint the shield silver.
- Once dry, paint green around the center and draw the design using white paint pen.
For the battle axe
- Trace the blade shape on black craft foam using a bowl.
- Cut two of these out and glue them together, leaving a space for the shaft, using hot glue.
- Spray paint the blade using silver spray paint.
- Paint a wooden dowel brown for the handle and slide the axe blade over the top, secure with hot glue.
For the shoulder armor pieces
- Cut two round shapes from black craft foam as well as four rectangular pieces.
- Layer these pieces using hot glue and spray with silver spray paint.
