How to Make a Pop-Up Rainbow Card

Brighten someone's day with a colorful, handmade card! Here's how to make it: 

Materials

  • Cardstock paper 
  • Paper to color on 
  • Scissors 
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Glue 
2 pieces of white paper on a wood table with scissors, glue stick, and rainbow colored markers

Instructions

  1. Fold a piece of cardstock in half to make your card.

  2. Cut a long strip of paper about 2-3 inches wide. 


  3. Color in rainbow stripes. 

    A strip of white paper is decorated with rainbow-colored vertical stripes using markers. The left image shows the strip partially colored with markers laid beside it. The right image shows the strip fully colored with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple sections.

  4. Fold the strip back and forth like an accordion. 


  5. Open the cardstock. Add glue to one end of the folded strip. 

    A person folds the colored paper strip into an accordion shape and glues one end to the inside of a white greeting card. The first panel shows glue being applied to one side of the folded strip. The second panel shows the card partially closed, creating a fan-like rainbow pop-up effect.
  6.  Glue the end to the right side of the card. The strip should be glued parallel to the top of the card, and the edge of the glued strip should touch the center fold.
  7. Glue the other end of the strip to the left side. (It should look like this from the top.)

  8. Write a message inside and decorate the front! When the card is closed, the accordion will fold up. When opened, it will pop into a rainbow!
