Instructions
Your child will love being 'Commander in Chief' in our DIY President costume!
For the jacket:
- Cut two matching lapels, two rectangle pocket flaps, and a small breast pocket from black felt. Cut a pointed pocket square and a small rectangle for the flag pin from white felt. Glue the pocket square to the breast pocket piece. Use blue and red markers to draw the American flag onto the small white felt and hot glue to one of the lapels. Attach all pieces to the cardigan with double sided fabric tape.
For the tie:
- Cut a long rectangle with a “V” shaped bottom edge for the tie, a hexagon for the top tie “knot”, and a thin strip for the neckband from blue felt. Glue thin diagonal stripes of red felt onto the tie and tie knot. Fold and glue two pleats at the top edge of the tie. Fold the hexagon in half and glue it over the top edge of the tie, leaving a pocket opening on the sides for the neckband. Thread the neckband through the top of the tie and attach around the collar with double sided fabric tape or a safety pin.
- Add aviator sunglasses and black shoes to complete the look!
