Instructions:
For the trash can:
- Cut and glue 2-3 layers of corrugated cardboard for the body of the trash can to make a sturdy can.
- When rolled into a cylinder, the outside of the can should show the smooth cardboard side, and it should measure about 10-11” wide, and about 11-12” tall.
- Cut and glue a circle of cardboard to the bottom of the trash can.
- Using sturdy wire, make 2 circles that are the same size as the inside of the can.
- Wrap the circles with duct tape.
- Hot glue one ring near the bottom of the inside of the can and the second near the top of the can to create a sturdy trash can.
- Cover the trash can with vertical strips of silver duct tape, and a horizontal strip for the top and bottom edges of the can.
- Use a black marker to draw the trash can line details onto the can.
- Apply silver duct tape along the top inside edge of the can so the inside trash can cardboard isn’t easily visible.
- Make a square cardboard sign that reads “I <3 trash” using black and red markers.
- Make Slimey the worm using yellow felt and an orange marker for the stripes. Glue these pieces to the front of the trash can.
- Cut a few pieces of white felt and glue them to look like crumpled paper.
- Make a banana peel using yellow felt and a brown marker.
- Glue these pieces of trash along the edges of the trash can.
For the lid:
- Make a circle shaped lid from cardboard and cover it with silver duct tape.
- Make a couple flies using black and white felt and glue them sticking up from the lid on sturdy wire.
- Glue an elastic band to the center underside of the lid to hold the lid over the baby’s head.
