DIY time is about 30 minutes

Make the headband: Cut and glue a loop circle of elastic that fits comfortably around the child’s head.
Create the leaves: Cut four palm tree leaves from green craft foam and glue them together on the elastic band.
Glue on the coconuts: Glue three brown felt coconuts to the palm leaves
Create the letters: Cut lower case letters from felt and attach them to the clothes with fabric tape.

For the Coconut:

Make the headband: Cut and glue a loop circle of elastic that fits comfortably around the child’s head.
Create the palm tree leaves and glue to band: Cut two palm tree leaves from green craft foam and glue them together on the elastic band.
Cut the letters and glue to leaves: Cut letters from felt and glue them onto the leaves.
Coconut design note: To make the round coconut shape, this costume is constructed like a beach ball. Two halves of a ball are created using upholstery foam to give it structure. The halves are then connected with elastic over the shoulders and sides to hold the costume over the torso.

Create beach ball panels: From upholstery foam, cut 6 beach ball panels - narrow at each end, and widest in the center.
Outline coconut cover: Use one of the foam panels to trace the pattern onto black brown with white fabric chalk, drawing about ½” from the foam edge. Cut 12 felt panels.
Glue panels together: Hot glue three foam panels together along the long curved edges. Repeat with the remaining 3 foam panels.
Glue felt together: Glue three felt panels together as you did for the foam pieces, along the long curved edges. Repeat until you have 4 sets of 3 felt panels.
Glue felt to foam pieces: Glue felt to Place one foam half between 2 sets of felt panels and glue the outer edges together. Repeat for the other foam half.
Glue on elastic straps: Glue brown elastic straps between each ball half, connecting them at the shoulders and sides.
