For SpongeBob:
Create the body:
-
Cut two rectangles of yellow felt that fits over the child’s body.
-
Fold the top short edge of each rectangle and glue it to make a small, long pocket for the thin dowel to fit through. Insert the dowel and secure it with glue. This will help to keep the costume’s shape at the top.
-
Glue white ribbon ties to the top of both rectangles to tie them over the shoulders.
-
For the front and back of the body, use white felt for the shirt, brown felt for the pants, black felt for the belt, and red felt for the tie in the front of the body. Hot glue these pieces to the bottom section of the yellow rectangle. Use black fabric paint to draw the necktie line and outline the triangle collar so they stand out a bit more.
Make the face details:
-
Cut the circle eyes and eyelashes from white, turquoise blue, and black felt. Cut two small rectangles of white felt for the teeth, and cut ovals of tan felt for the sponge holes. Hot glue these pieces to the face.
-
Use black fabric paint with a fine tipped nozzle to draw a large smiling mouth. Use red fabric paint to draw the round cheeks and freckles at the edges of the mouth. Use red fabric paint to draw a curved chin just below the teeth.
