Instructions

Hey, no kid is an angel ALL the time. Take a stroll on the dark side this Halloween with the Primary DIY Devil costume for your kiddo. Lucifer, and itchy store-bought costumes, have nothing on this classic look featuring our Primary essentials. But mostly, we're all about this Devil's adorable pitch-spork. Wishing you a devilishly happy Halloween!

For the hat:

  • Cut two devil horn shaped fronts and backs from the felt, about ½ inch longer than you’d like the finished pieces. Paint with glitter fabric paint (optional).
  • Sew each pair of horns together, leaving an un-sewn space of about ½ inch at the base of the horn. This will create “feet”. Pin feet in place on the hat, then sew to secure. You could alternately use foam for this too, but it may be difficult to sew.

For the pitchfork:

  • Use utility knife to create a pitchfork shape from the cardboard. For the fork part, draw an obtuse U, draw a parallel line within the U shape, then add triangles to to tip of each point.
  • Cut it out. Trace the front and back of the fork shape onto the foam, and cut out. Wrap the handle well with black duct tape. Peel the paper from the foam cut outs and stick to the same shaped cardboard. It should be sturdy enough to withstand up to one day with a toddler.

For the tail:

  • Cut strips of felt about 1.5 wide, sewing the strips together to make the tail long enough, cutting a triangle at one end. Make sure the finished tail is at least 4 inches from the floor so it doesn’t become a tripping hazard. (Optional: Double the material and sew it together for added strength.)
  • Sew the base of the tail (the flat end) to the seam on the rear end of the footie.

For the flames:

  • Draw the outline of the flame shape with black fabric paint on each leg front. When dry, fill in with red, orange, and yellow paints. When that is dry, generously paint the whole flame with clear glittery fabric paint.
